Sasha
Braus

Sasha entered military history eating a stolen potato in the middle of the induction ceremony and offering her commandant half. The joke covered something harder. She was a hunter's daughter from the back hills who faked a polite dialect because she was ashamed of her own, and Ymir called her out on it years before Sasha stopped performing. Her instincts were the real thing: she heard Titans before anyone saw them, and her read on the Female Titan's scream, the cry of a cornered animal, was exactly right.

During the Wall Rose panic she found a Titan eating a woman alive in a village and went at it with an ax, then covered a little girl's escape with a bow, three arrows, and finally her bare hands. Her father found her on the road afterward and told her he was proud of who she had become. The girl who stole meat from the officers' storehouse grew into the regiment's best shot, and in Liberio she worked the rooftops as a sniper, covering the retreat that got everyone to the airship.

Gabi Braun climbed aboard that airship and put a bullet through her. Sasha bled out among her friends, and her last word was meat. Jean and Conny carried the loss for the rest of the war, Nicolo the Marleyan cook loved her and nearly killed a child over her, and her father refused the revenge he was offered. He said he had sent her out of the forest into a bigger one, and that it was the adults' job to break the cycle, not feed it.
